Useful Information
When purchasing your boat's lighting
Bulb Reference Guide |
| When purchasing a fixture, the fixture either is
designed specifically for a certain bulb type, or is designed
to use several different bulbs, depending on your application.
The charts below can help you choose what bulb is right
for your fixture and your specific application. |
Tungsten Halogen
| G4 Halogen |
|
A low-cost bulb that works with any fixture requiring a G4 bulb.
It is available in 12V, 14V, 24V, 28V or 32VDC versions with standard outputs from 5-20 watts.
|
| G4 Xenon |
|
Lasts up to five times longer than standard G4 bulb, with only slight reduction in light output. Xenon bulbs tend to be more resistant to voltage fluctuations and offer more flexible handling characteristics.
|
| GU10/GZ10 |
|
Line voltage MR16 aluminum reflector bulb is used in many of today's line-voltage spots. They are designed to reflect heat out through the front of the fixture making them a good choice for fixtures installed in tight spaces.
|
| R7 |
|
High-intensity linear halogen bulb. Typically used for flood light applications. 120/220 VAC available
|
Fluorescents
| PL 2-Pin |
|
Compact and highly efficient. Available in PL9 (9W) and PL13 (13W) versions for our Utility Lights and Small Engine Room Light, respectively. Fits G23 socket.
|
| PL 4-Pin |
|
Available in 18W, 24W, 36W and 48W sizes. Different color outputs (cool white/41K, warm white/27K). Used in larger Resolux 750 Series fixtures. Usually fits 2G11 socket.
|
| T5/T8 |
|
Straight tube lamp in sub-miniature (T5) or standard (T8) diameters from 4W-35W. Color levels from 27K-33K.
|
Incandescents
| B15d-S8 Bayonet |
|
Double contact bayonet bulb, popular in reading lights, wall lights and dome fixtures. Available in different wattages and voltages for both AC and DC applications. ANSI #1142
|
E14 Tubular/ E14 Spherical |
|
"Candelabra" screw-based bulb available for DC or AC systems in tubular or round shape. Spherical type typically used in wall-shade lamps. The long and narrow spherical style is typically used in low-profile ceiling fixtures.
|
| E26/E27 |
|
Medium screw-based bulb is available in AC or DC versions. These are your typical household bulbs used in the larger wall-shade lamps and some utility lights
|
| W2 Wedge |
|
Tiny "wedge" bulbs used in small courtesy lights. 12/24 VDC available.
|
| SV7 Festoon |
|
Low-voltage/low wattage bulbs used in small and medium sized courtesy lights. 12/24 VDC available.

IP Rating Guide |
Ingress Protection Ratings define the amount of protection an electronic product
(such as a light fixture) has against
enviromental influence. The two digits represent two different forms of enviromental influence. See example:

The general rule to follow is the larger the number, the more protected the item is from enviromental influence.
The following chart gives us a very specific idea of what each number represents:
|
First Number (protection from solids):
| 0 |
No Protection |
| 1 |
Protected against solids objects over 50mm (e.g. accidental touch by hands)
|
| 2 |
Protected against solids objects over 12mm (e.g. fingers) |
| 3 |
Protected against solids objects over 2.5mm (e.g. tools and wires) |
| 4 |
Protected against solids objects over 1mm (e.g. tools, wires and small wires) |
| 5 |
Protected against dust - limited ingress (no harmful deposit) |
| 6 |
Totally protected against dust |
Second Number: (protection from liquids)
| 0 |
No Protection |
| 1 |
Protected against vertically falling drops of water
|
| 2 |
Protected against direct sprays up to 15 degrees from the vertical |
| 3 |
Protected against direct sprays up to 60 degrees from the vertical |
| 4 |
Protected against sprays from all directions - limited ingress permitted
|
| 5 |
Protected against low pressure jets if water from all directions - limited ingress permitted |
| 6 |
Protected against strong jets of water e.g. for use on shipdecks - limited ingress permitted |
| 7 |
Protected against the effects of temporary immersion between 15cm and 1m. Duration of test 30 minutes |
| 8 |
Protected against long periods of immersion under pressure |
